Nostalgic for the past, pining for the future. As a mom of three young boys, I'm always trying to slow time. It's the reason I first picked up photography over ten years ago - I wanted to capture everything. The little hands, baby teeth, big gummy gaps when those teeth fall out, every milestone, every mundane detail; I wanted a record of it all. Photos take me back in time. To the lives I've lived. To all the different versions of themselves my children have been. I can't look at a photograph without feeling a pull, a tug, a gentle ache in my heart for that which once was.

nostalgia (n): a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or a place with happy personal associations.

A sentimental longing.

A belly that held the moon. The smell of your newborn. The bleary-eyed days and weeks after birth. A boy tossed in the air. A head full of curls glowing in the sun. Belly laughs. The pitter patter of feet running across the floorboards. The warmth of summer. Joy without end. Miles and miles of it, spilling out towards the horizon.

A wistful affection.

The way he brushes the hair from your face. The way she calls you baby. The inside jokes only the two of you understand. How he bites his bottom lip; how she blushes. I want to show this love for what it is. A flash of teeth, an embrace. Bodies so close your souls could touch. A "will you?" An "I do."
